Time for a Microwave Deep Clean

Lemons help deep clean a microwave

There are very few parts of the house that are more often used than the microwave, and especially with a family that microwave can get very grimy very quickly. All the grime and gunk, if left uncleaned, ends up in all the other meals that you put in the microwave, so we really do recommend giving your microwave a deep clean every so often.

We always love to find ways to get stains out without using harsh chemicals, especially in places where food is handled, and children could get their little fingers. That’s why we’ve found a way to give your microwave a deep clean with only lemons, water, vinegar and a bowl.

What you’ll need to do first is to cut your lemons into slices and put them into a bowl of water. Then mix in a healthy amount of white vinegar to the mix, we’d recommend a few tablespoons, but it really depends on the state and size of your microwave.

Turn on the microwave for 5–10 minutes, and when it’s finished, leave the door closed and let the bowl stand for another 5 minutes. After the 5 minutes are up, carefully remove the bowl, it will still be quite hot.

All the stains will have softened and you can remove them with a paper towel or a damp cloth, and your microwave should be sterile and smell great!

As with any cleaning tip including vinegar, be careful to keep it away from the mouths and hands of children and pets.
